Who
are cycle-tourists?
Cycle
tourists are from all age groups and backgrounds. The
youngest are children accompanied by their cycling parents
however the main group consists of adults in the 25 to 49
year category travelling as singles, couples, or with
friends. The image of cycle-tourism as a poor man’s
vacation is in no way true; cycle tourists come from all
walks of life, and what is in common is that cycle tourism
is their choice of a vacation.
What
are they looking for?
The cycle tourists use all types of accommodation from camping sites to
five-star hotels. A good clean shower or bath in the room
is important while a TV in the room is not. In the evening
the cycle tourists are tired and hungry, so they tend to
prefer a place which includes the possibility to eat.
Development
of the local supporting services
The
cafes, small shops and restaurants that are along cycle
routes, are always looked out for by cycle tourists ready
to stock up on supplies. Unlike motorists who can take
many items with them, cyclists can only take a limited
weight of supplies and have to stop for fresh supplies
each day. Also don’t forget that they need to stop every
so often for a rest!
